Dear Mr. Sugal,
It has been a unique pleasure doing business with you. I find you to be a passionate musician with a real understanding of acoustics and what it takes to make the saxophone sound beautiful but over and above that a gentleman. The Gary Sugal MB III +s Black hematite tenor mouthpieces I bought from you is a joy to play. Great intonation, fine craftsmanship, and solid full sound are only some of the icing on the cake compared to great dynamics. I have tested it against my many of the other mouthpiece I have and find your MB so far superior. To me, the most notable attribute is how the mouthpiece allows me to have my own district sound and the color that a saxophone naturally has. It blows so easy and the volume of the notes are consistent thru all the octaves and every register of the saxophone.I am sure it will help me in the style and method of playing that I am used to. That style progresses from practice and represents feelings from the heart and soul. Thank You, Mike T.

Gary,
I've been really busy and have finally found some time to drop you this note.
I've been playing my black Hematite MB III +s since I bought it from you earlier this year. I absolutely love it. It sounds and plays nothing less than freeking amazing.
I play professionally here in Louisiana and have a jazz quartet that plays pretty regularly at most of the jazz clubs in around town. Believe it or not, sometime the audience won't let me put my sax down, I blame it on the mouthpiece. The crowd in all the clubs we play seem to love my sound. Many of the customers come over after a set and compliment my sound. You have outdone yourself with this mouthpiece. Let me know if I can help as a reference for other prospective buyers. I really hope this takes off for you. Thanks, John J.

Hey, Gary
I have now had the pleasure of playing the MB III Black hematite purchased from you for a couple of weeks. The mouthpiece has a nice center and feel to it. The notes are solid and responsive, unlike any other contemporary mouthpiece I have ever played.
The intonation is rock solid, all the way up and down every register of the horn, from altissimo to lower register. This mouthpiece generates a very complex combination of beautiful rich undertones. Before I bought this mouthpiece from you, I was a little hesitant but decided to take the plunge based upon your great reputation. I am not in the least bit sorry. In fact, I’m elated, this mouthpiece has changed my entire approach to playing the saxophone. I am hitting those low Cs, Bs, and Bbs and is a piece of cake. I can whisper them out. Altissimo notes are equally easy to hit. Your mouthpieces have become the only mouthpiece I’ll ever want to play. I will need a soprano and alto mouthpiece and will call you next week. A million thanks. Barry C.

Gary,
I had the KW III +s for about 45 minutes now. Long enough to confirm everything players say about your mouthpiece is not exaggerated enough. The first thing I noticed immediately is how comfortable the mouthpiece feels in my mouth, more than my Wanne, Link . The tone is solid and has a rich tonality of its very own. I’ve not experienced this sound in any other mouthpiece that I ever played. I can actually feel as strange it may seem that my fingers move faster because notes just pop out. The mouthpiece feels solid and I can play into the altissimo register very easyily. I don't have to reassemble my embouchure to play above the normal register. It’s all seems to easy but I love it. Thank you Tom D.

Hi Gary
I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am with my recent purchase of KW III + s hematite tenor mouthpiece. The piece is outstanding. It arrived as promised via Federal Express in two days. The boys in the band were in awe at the sound and I was asked how did I manage to change my sound. I feel pound for pound your mouthpieces are so far superior to any other mouthpiece on the market. As you mentioned on the phone it’s the only mouthpiece a player will ever need. Totally agree. Thanks again Pete M

Its Incredible!!!!.
Gary,
How do you make these tenor mouthpieces play so fantastic? Many thanks for engraving my name on the mouthpiece. This copper KW II is going to be the only mouthpiece I will ever play.
Of course, you must know this wonderful feeling over the years you have heard from hundreds of other players who have purchased your mouthpieces.
Bless you and Very best regards from Argentina Julia.G

Hi Gary,
I recently purchased one of your Super Lieb pure copper soprano mouthpiece that you picked out for me. I’m delighted with the mouthpiece and the manner in which you handled the transaction.
The sound is just spectacular and I’d like to take my tenor sound to the next level by purchasing a tenor mouthpiece from you. I’m currently playing a Theo Wanne Durga 7* Its obvious that you make the world’s best mouthpieces (I read multiple reviews and people say they’re second to none pretty much the best) so I’d like to know which mouthpiece you would recommend for me for playing contemporary jazz. I’m looking for a rich, projective, and round but fully open tone that would be perfect for jazz solos. Which mouthpiece model would you recommend? I’d also like to know what reeds you recommend for your specific mouthpieces (for concert / classical and cool jazz playing)? Thank you very much, it was certainly a pleasure doing business – I’m totally satisfied with Super Lieb Soprano mouthpiece. Vincent L

Gary,
the MB III + s tenor mouthpiece you sold to me is a phenomenal mouthpiece. The black hematite finish gives this mouthpiece a gorgeous look My daughter was very impressed by it’st look and the way it sounded. The mouthpiece plays extremely smooth I play a few different saxes but mostly a Selmer 6, and this mouthpiece is the best sounding mouthpiece I have ever played. I have a show next week and I know all my solos will stand out and be better than ever. My wife also commented on how well I sounded on the six. Thank you for the great mouthpiece at a great price and a fine quality mouthpiece. My thumbs are up to you and your products. One last thing, a close friend who also an alto player in the band (Mark) was very impressed, and wants to order an alto mouthpiece from you so expect a call next week. Thanks again for the great service, quality, and the fact that it was a pleasure to talk and deal with you, musically, Sid T.

Hey Gary,
I'm finally getting around to dropping you a line about the great mouthpiece I got from you earlier this year. The MB III Tenor with the Black Hematite finish is one sweet mouthpiece. It looks gorgeous. It also feels great and it sounds fantastic with my Mark VI tenor. I know this mouthpiece is custom made and slightly more expensive than other manufacturers but it is worth every penny I paid because it has changed my life.
I like a fat focused sound and the fact that it plays in tune with great intonation and smooth easy flow between each not makes this MB II a far superior mouthpiece than any other mouthpiece I have ever played. And let's not forget edge on demand. The MB II is a very comfortable mouthpiece you can relax and play. It gives your tone more of a presence and color. When I first played it at rehearsal the cats in the band noticed a difference and complimented me on the tone.
To this day they still don't know I changed mouthpieces but they know something is very different. My other piece is a Jody Jazz DV - however, the MB II gives me the sound I have been looking for my whole life. The MB II even brought new life to my Conn 10M now that baby is singing too. Arthur M.

Gary
I went online right after the new year and ordered a Gary Sugal Tenor KW III s. I am so glad I did. Actually, I didn't have a tenor mouthpiece because I am an alto player. When I played your mouthpiece for the first time at home, I didn't stop until my bottom lip started to bleed. This thing is incredible. I bought this mouthpiece because I am a military man (therefore, not rich) and was undecided to buy sight unseen. In fact, I was expecting to get a second or shopworn mouthpiece. Every mouthpiece I have ever tested either in the store (Otto Link, Jody Jazz, Theo Wanne, Berg Larson ) or from the wwbw were of no comparison. I apologize unreservedly for even thinking that there was anything superior. The intonation and easiness to play are unheard of for a high baffle mouthpiece. I wish I could scream to the whole music world what you have created. I am going to urge every saxophone player I know to hear and play this mouthpiece.

Gary,
I can't thank you enough for this incredible KW II tenor mouthpiece. I beg you, don't stop making mouthpieces. I feel sorry for the companies that charge the same or more as you do because they are going to feel the sting as soon as word of mouth gets out there. Again, thank you for making superb professional mouthpieces and selling for a fair price!! God bless you!!! Anthon T.

Hi Gary, Mike from MO here again.
I just wanted to take the time to thank you once again for such a great mouthpiece.
Both the Copper Tenor KW II and Super Classic Alto are awesome, even though I'm a bit under the weather, so I didn't push it too hard. The feel on both mouthpieces is as you advertise “free blowing” with a tone that is second to none. I didn't want to put either of them down. My next step is to get a baritone NB II mouthpiece. I'll have to call you again so we can discuss what I'm looking to get on my baritone as far as sound. I will definitely promote these moutpieces.

Just for You Gary
How I arrived at choosing a Gary Sugal tenor mouthpieceI initially saw Sugal Mouthpieces for sale on eBay and began to do my research. First, I knew that you sold “high” end custom mouthpieces and were well established in that field. I also noticed a few Sugal mouthpieces for sale on eBay and later I checked out your website directly. The price seemed to be right, but what about the quality, after all, I would be buying a mouthpiece sight unseen. I began researching the various models you make and learned quickly that you seem to be always available by phone or email to answer questions from players.
Most every critic who ever played your mouthpiece rated it as second to none. A fact these days is hard to believe. However, in every case, the player was ecstatic with the quality, sound, and cost of their purchase. They felt they had received a good deal for the money they’d invested. Most every buyer swore by the mouthpiece as the best they’d ever played. Some players have played on a Sugal for more than twenty five years.
In addition, the player felt that the price you were asking for your Tenor KW and MB mouthpieces was very reasonable. I wish to mention that there were two other facts that helped to influence me to buy my KW from you. Number one, I don’t think you’re going to want to hurt your reputation for making poor quality mouthpieces. Number two was the fact that you are a successful player who will personally test and pick out the mouthpiece you send out.
My final analysis is. This is a great value for the money. You have to spend this money only once as your mouthpieces reviewed by other players state it will last a lifetime.
I don’t want to make the claim that Sugal mouthpiece outplays everything else. Although most fans of Sugal mouthpieces believe this to be true. I don’t have the experience of playing many other brands to make that comparison. What I do believe is that a Sugal mouthpiece provides the serious student, intermediate and professional saxophone player a mouthpiece that is very easy to blow, has a great power great sounding and is versatile for most venues. It is also available at a reasonable price. In that respect, the Sugal mouthpieces clearly meet these goals.
It is definitely a plus that you field test your mouthpieces before you send them out. Buying a mouthpiece from a respected player helps when buying “sight unseen”.
The final question is this: is the mouthpiece worth the money? In my opinion, it definitely is a good investment for the serious musician. The mouthpiece is a solid professional beautifully handcrafted great sounding mouthpiece that should be used by every saxophone player who loves playing his or her horn.

I've bought a Sugal MB II +s Gold saxophone mouthpiece. I think it's very beautiful and the workmanship wonderful. When it arrived at my home (in Italy) I was really surprised because it played even better than what I heard on some Youtube videos. It was much better than I thought. I've had seen many photos and videos so I crossed my fingers. I don’t think I was especially lucky because I’ve heard from other saxophonists that your mouthpieces are the best you can buy.
I have a King and a Balanced action and the Sugal plays more than ok on these horns. it plays like no other mouthpiece I have ever owned. It is far superior to a Jody Jazz, Drake, Theo Wanne Bergs, To my eyes it's one of the most beautiful mouthpieces I've ever seen. The shape is like a Guardala but plays very much better. The sound is centered perfectly in tune and it's easy to play from top to bottom with a great fat subtone. It's a very professional mouthpiece at a very fair price I'm beyond satisfied. Anthony V.

Well, I’ve been gigging and working that copper KW 2. I got after talking with you. All I can say I am extremely pleased with my purchase. The copper KW II mouthpiece up against a Berg, Wanne, Jody Jazz, Drake, Morgan, Link, Lebaye is no comparison.
The first impression out of the box: I was impressed with the weight and solid expensive feel of the mouthpiece. It IS gorgeous – but that was no surprise because all Sugal mouthpieces are handcrafted masterpieces. The KW has a clear, centered full tone and plays with very little effort and no resistance. The altissimo was particularly easy!Since then I’ve gigged with approving nods from my fellow musicians. They love my new sound! The mouthpiece is sweet, in tune from top to bottom, and blows like a dream with a superb sound I never experienced and soon will be ordering another one as a backup. Mark T.

To Gary,
Let me start off by saying that this is how all business should be handled. Mr. Sugal is one of a kind. You would have to be crazy not to order his products. I have been playing now for more than twenty-five years and my first purchase from Mr. Sugal was a KW I for my Tenor and Super Classic Alto Sax. Both mouthpieces have a wonderful projection, not to mention they are also beautiful handcrafted pieces.
Loved the way they look before I even ordered one. I must say that before I purchased any of his mouthpieces. I was a little skeptical. But now that I know the quality of his work, it has prompted me to not only buy the tenor KW I, SC Alto but also his Dave Liebman model and Baritone
The gold over copper mouthpieces is a huge Wow! His concept separates him years ahead of his competition, The mouthpiece by itself is lovely, a spectacular piece of craftsmanship to behold. I will not consider any other mouthpiece in the course of my lifetime. Don M.

Hello,
The Sugal Super Classic II Heavy Sterling Silver plated Alto I bought from you recently is one very very fine/special mouthpiece. I would put it in its own category as the best mouthpiece I have ever played. It is beautifully crafted, plays in tune and has a great response in all the registers. I don't know if these mouthpieces vary in sound but the one I have plays amazing. I also can say that I appreciate the fact that you offered to send me another mouthpiece if I happened to be unhappy. The other thing is I thought my Mindi Abair alto was excellent but from what I feel and hear behind the horn the difference is night and day. There is no comparison. I choose the Super Classic II over every other mouthpiece in the market. Hope the word spreads because in this writers opinion there is only one mouthpiece players should play and that is a Sugal. Jeff H.

Hi Gary,
I am sorry that I have not touched base with you after I received the KW II (silver ) mouthpiece but my life has been very busy and I kept saying --Dam! I have got to email Gary but---well, you know how that is.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that your KW II + s is SWEET! At first, I was a little concerned buying a mouthpiece without playing it --you know. But, because of a friend recommendation and the reputation you have, I felt confident that this was the right thing to do.
WoW, this piece is sassy. It has a voice and personality that’s Hot. It took about 2 times of playing the mouthpiece for about 20 mins. before I really started to smoke It has a great feel --- very nice. The "ring" is there! I think I have found my voice. The mouthpiece is perfect. Thank You. Scott. J

Hey Mr. Sugal,
Wanted to drop you a note to say thank you. The tenor KW I sax mouthpiece plays nothing less than amazing. My band noticed my sound was different immediately. This mouthpiece is a beautifully handcrafted piece of jewelry. It provides everything a sax player could possibly need when it comes to his or her personal sound.
Whenever the time comes, I will come back and order the Liebman soprano mouthpiece. It was a pleasure doing business with you. I also appreciate all of your help and patience you offered during the holidays. Thank you again, Roger J.

Gary WOW!
I love my Kirk Whalum II mouthpiece. I have played it up against everything that I own from Dukoff's Lawtons, Durgas, Berg Larson, Van Doran, Jody Jazz, Selmer, Theo Wanne, you name it! There is NO comparison. It totally overpowers them! I was wondering if I can order a Super Classic Alto II (size 7*). I am gigging so much and feel justified to say it’s the fault of the mouthpiece. Some of my videos are on YouTube where I am playing my Sugal exclusively. Thank you for making such great mouthpieces and God bless. Rob L

Gary,
I received the Super Classic alto and KW II tenor mouthpieces you sent me yesterday. They are both awesome. I love the tone I get from both of them.I love the way the mouthpieces play with so little effort. I don’t think that I ever experienced such a beautiful tone from any other mouthpiece. My dad said it is money well spent.
I would like to get a Super Lieb soprano mouthpiece (cut out of copper) sometime next month. I will call you the first week of November. I've heard they are really good. I'm also thinking about getting another backup tenor mouthpiece from you just to put away when I order the soprano. Sue L

Hi Gary,
Just had to let you know I received the KW II Sterling Silver, Tenor mouthpiece this evening, and in a word, FANTASTIC!I’m so happy with the mouthpiece after only playing it an hour, I’m ready to make a deal and order one of your Super Classic II’s.
Thank you for all of your feedback and information provided during this purchase. To me that’s what makes a long distance purchase either just ok or great, this was Great. I especially want to thank you for making this the easiest and best internet deal I have ever done. Not only did this custom made piece come earlier then I expected it is exactly what you said it would be, and maybe more. For anyone out there like me, nervous about making a saxophone mouthpiece purchase over the internet, I’m here to tell you “buy it from Gary, you won’t be disappointed”. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing I can finally get the sound I always wanted. The tone is smooth and easy to pay. Once again, thank you very much. Arnold T.

Hi, I think I can speak on Sugal products with some actual experience. I have 4 of his mouthpieces and 2 of his horns. I think his mouthpieces are some of the most high-quality pieces on the market. Bright or Dark is a matter of taste as far as sound. Gary has models that cover every spectrum of tonal color a musician seeks. The quality of the mouthpiece feels expensive and the finish is outstanding. Most importantly they will take your sound to a totally new level. It’s an experience you dare not want to miss. Seth. P.

(July 2015)
Gary,
I wanted to drop you a line about the new sterling silver finished KW II mouthpiece I received Friday morning. As a reminder of my profileI’m a 46-year-old sax player who hadn’t touched a horn in about 7 years. In my college days as a music major, I owned a Mark VI Alto and a Selmer Series III Tenor. I knew I missed playing, and although I owned two great horns that played well enough with most any mouthpiece I wanted something special for me to play in my church for solo and ensemble work.Within a short time, I began to search the internet for a new mouthpiece to go with the Mark VI. The truth be told, I’d had the finances and planned to spend upwards of $800.00 for a professional mouthpiece. With that budget in mind there were several choices of mouthpiece brands to review but eventually, I narrowed them down to your mouthpieces.
The minute I put the KW II on the horn I felt as if my dream had come through. The mouthpiece immediately sounded amazing. It has the edge, power, and fullness I always wanted in a mouthpiece, I don’t understand how you do it but for me, this is GOD sent.
Bless You, for the talent you have in making such great mouthpieces. I am now thinking about getting an alto from you. John W.

Hi Gary,
I’m becoming a Sugal Junkie! -
This endorsement (as if I were a star) follows. It’s a little wordy, but I do own six of your mouthpieces.
Back in 1996, I was on a quest to find a mouthpiece for my Balanced Action Tenor that would do what I wanted With the incredible number of mouthpieces in the market I was going nuts playtesting them. Over the years I have I’d tried dozens and dozens of mouthpieces. I spotted your ad in the saxophone journal way back then and gave you a call. I was immediately impressed by your willingness to spend time on the phone determining what I was looking for. You found out what my horn was, the year it was manufactured and how long I had been playing on it You asked what I’d tried and what I found lacking in other mouthpieces. You asked a few other questions and explained your policy that you’d work with me virtually forever until I was satisfied.
When it the mouthpiece arrived, the first thing I noticed was the obvious quality of workmanship. As a former machinist, I have an eye for those fine details that truly finish a piece of work; no easy job with copper. I put it on the horn and it took exactly one note, less than a second, and I knew that there was no way I was sending it back; not even if you offered me twice the price I paid!
The low register just rolled out of the horn, the altissimo screamed, and everything in between was easier to play in tune. Sure, intonation is the player’s job, but my original Super Gonz did (and still does) an impeccable job of transmitting my intentions to the instrument.
You just can’t ask for more than that. Since then, I’ve mostly been playing the lead in big bands in the area and the tone quality is crystal clear. I have made many other purchases from you and have never regretted a single. I find I cannot over-blow your mouthpieces which we tend to do when trying to survive in front of all those brass players, I can be heard above the section. This not only means that I can actually lead, but those subtle dynamics are possible. At the same time, I can get a very contemporary sound when called for in a small group setting. I have a few years back ordered model one that allows me to play on the darker side in small venues.
Once again, your ability to utilize copper, a difficult material to machine, and your attention to detail have given me more of an opportunity to experience the art in music and that is why I have ordered my sixth mouthpiece from you. It doesn’t get any better than that. I plan to continue to invest in any new models you come out with over the next few years. Thanks again.
Sheldon B
