ABS FILIMENTS
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is a 3D printing plastic. that is petroleum-based known as a thermoplastic polymer
Objects printed using a 3D printer techniques are definitely not suitable for an adult or child who may tend to put objects in their mouth.
The material has an unpleasant odor and is not healthy to breathe in.
ABS is generally considered unsafe to use with anything that will touch the mouth or food.
Several 3d printed mouthpiece manufacturing firms one in particular claim that there ABS is "food safe" so we purchased one only to find that they fail to address the porous 3D-printed texture as a harbor for bacteria.
NOTE:
Food safe doesn't necessarily mean biocompatible, which might be a more relevant standard for constant mouth contact.
Regardless, plastic (ABS) is
ABS is made from acrylonitrite and that is listed as a cause of cancer : https://www.p65warnings.ca.gov/chemicals/acrylonitrile
ABS (3d printed) mouthpieces contains various combinations of toxic chemicals (see below) which could leach into your food and eventually, your mouth.
ABS is derived from acrylonitrile, butadiene, and styrene.
Acrylonitrile is a synthetic monomer produced from propylene and ammonia; Butadiene is a petroleum hydrocarbon obtained from the C4 fraction of steam cracking; styrene monomer is made by dehydrogenation of ethyl benzene — a hydrocarbon obtained in the reaction of ethylene and benzene
